A Windsor, Ontario, Middle Eastern restaurant is serving up a vegan shawarma and it’s the real deal.
Mazaar, located in South Windsor, placed the dish on their latest menu back in January, becoming the first traditional restaurant in the Windsor-Essex region to offer a vegan option of the popular Middle Eastern dish. Shawarma was named as one of Windsor’s most iconic foods.

So, How Good Is It?
Whether you are a plant-based eater or not, you will not be disappointed with this vegan take on a beef shawarma. In fact, the flavours and texture of the imitation meat made of soy curls is so realistic customers have regularly thought they were served a real shawarma.
The vegan shawarma is topped just like their traditional shawarma offering (the dish, not a wrap) with cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and onions on a bed of shredded fried potato. It’s then drizzled with tahini and mustard microgreens.
This menu item is a definite must-try for vegans and non-vegans alike!
