MOIST WET HOP PALE ALE

It’s the second new beer Craft Heads Brewing Company is releasing this weekend, but, what exactly are Wet Hop Ales and why are they so unique?

Brewers often use pelletized hops in their brews that have been dried and stored from the previous season. However, there is a two-week period during the year that brewers can utilize “wet hops” to fully capture the freshness of the harvest in their beer. These hops are picked at the optimum conditions and provide a more herbal, green and fresh quality to the beer than their dried and pelletized versions. The window to use them in this form is less than 24 hours, so being able to source them close by is key.

Here in Windsor-Essex, we are fortunate enough to be in a region where these hop plants thrive, and even more fortunate that we have Canada’s first patented hop, Sasquatch, just minutes away from our local breweries. It doesn’t get any more local than that.

While the beer from Frank Brewing Co. isn’t necessarily the newest, the fact that it’s in cans is! The Sombrero Cerveza is brewed with fresh lime juice, making it light and refreshing.

Part of The Grove Brew House‘s One Brew Wonders Series, Shock & Law is a Blueberry Wit paying tribute to two local musicians.

Once dubbed the “best duo out of Canada since Ian and Sylvia”, Michele and John Law are award-winning “blues-grass” songwriters. Known for their tight-as-a-glove harmonies and heartfelt lyrics, The Laws have performed at folk, bluegrass and country festivals, theatres and listening rooms throughout North America and Australia.
