Yalla Nakol is the city’s first Palestinian restaurant and has been getting major buzz since they opened their doors back in October. Their name literally translates to “Let’s eat!” and that’s exactly what you’ll be saying after you see their menu of fresh, authentically prepared sandwiches, appetizers, and entrees.

We recently sampled just a few of their drool-worthy dishes, and we’re officially hooked. Here are five of our favourite menu items (so far…)

Maqlouba

The word means “upside down” and we know you’re going to flip for this famous Levant dish (see what we did there?) They make it the traditional Palestinian way: lamb layered with fried eggplant, onions, cauliflower, tomato, chickpeas, rice and spices. It’s cooked together in a pot and then flipped onto a plate and served, you guessed it, upside down.

Chicken and veggie options are also available, but whatever way you spin it, it’s the ultimate comfort dish.

Musakhan

Rip it, roll it, dip it, eat it! This finger lickin’ good dish is made with taboun bread topped with onions that have been slow cooked in olive oil and  sumac. It’s then finished with oven-baked chicken and spices and served with fresh yogurt sauce for dipping.

Musakhan Rolls

A more portable version of their Musakhan, made with shrak bread and boneless chicken breast. They’re then rolled up, baked, and drizzled with a sweet yet tangy pomegranate sauce and served with yogurt sauce for dipping. We’re calling them their version of taquitos. We’re also calling them deliciously addictive.

Fatteh

Just like the Maqlouba, their Fatteh is all about them layers. Flavour. Texture. Colour. More flavour. They’re yum on top of yum drizzle with a little “omg!” Available in meat or veggie options, it starts with a bed of toasted pita chips. From there they top it with your choice of kofta, chicken, or eggplant plus ground beef, tomato sauce, their secret fatta sauce, parsley, pomegranate, almonds, and that pomegranate sauce that I could just drink straight out of the bottle.

The Big Trio

After seeing this adorable, perfectly packaged meal, we’ve decided all food should be colour coded. Their signature Trio Box includes 3 sandwiches made with their special Kmaj bread: lamb or beef (pink), grilled chicken (white), and falafel (green.) Served with their fresh cut fries, it’s perfect for picnics, tailgating, or really any time you want a meal that looks as amazing as it tastes.
