It’s been well known that a case can be made for Windsor and it’s surrounding area as being the best place in Canada to get a lager. Local breweries are regularly bringing home awards in the lager category at the Ontario and Canadian brewing awards. Heck, it’s one of the reasons that make this region so great to visit.

Walkerville Brewery

The Honest Lager from Walkerville Brewery is the locally made lager that started it all. There’s a reason it has become a staple of many pint glasses in and around Windsor. It’s also took home the gold medal at the 2021 Ontario Brewing Awards.

Top Dog Brewing Co. is a newcomer to the Windsor-Essex brewing scene. One of their staples is the Triple A Amber Lager with upfront hints of malted caramel and a smooth, crisp finish.

Big fan of local hockey? Frank Brewing Company pays homage to the Windsor Spitfires with this moderately carbonated and well balanced lager. It has a hint of malty sweetness and pairs well pizza, BBQ and fish.

 


 

42ND PARALLEL LAGER
Cured Craft Brewing Co.

Cured Craft Brewing Co. named this after the fact they sit along the 42nd parallel. This lager is clean and crisp with a mild malt sweetness.

 


 

COMMON MUTT LAGER
GL Heritage Brewing Co.

Who’s a good beer?! Known as the California Common, this lager from GL Heritage Brewing Co. balances a nutty caramel start with a mild citrus finish.

This lager from The Grove Brewing Company recently received honourable mention at the 2021 Ontario Brewing Awards. It’s light copper in colour with rich German malt flavours, and a clean crisp finish.

 


 

LIGHT EH! LAGER
Kingsville Brewery

Another honourable mention at the 2021 Ontario Brewing Awards, the Light Eh! Lager from Kingsville Brewery was also a previous winner of a Canadian Brewing Awards silver medal. It’s clear straw colour with a sweet bready aroma, rounded out by a light grain and hop flavour.
