Windsor-Essex, Ontario, breweries pump out some incredible, award-winning brews and it’s no different with their stouts. If you’re a fan of something a little darker hitting your lips, here are 7 delicious stouts you need to try:

EASY STOUT
WALKERVILLE BREWERY

Let’s start off with probably the most well known and decorated stout brewed in Windsor. It’s a multi-award winner in both Canadian and Ontario brewing awards having taken home 5 medals, including gold in the 2019 Ontario Brewing Awards and silver in the 2020 Canadian Brewing Awards.

The Easy Stout is a decadent and delicious all year-round milk stout. Rich and robust, it’s still fairly light, medium bodied and easy drinking. A soft espresso note should linger as the beer finishes slightly dry.

SHOOTS & SKI STOUT
GL HERITAGE BREWING CO.

GL Heritage Brewing Co. offers up a sweet stout with their Shoots & Ski. It’s rich in colour with complex flavour profiles of roasted coffee and smooth dark chocolate. This brew is medium-bodied and easy-drinking  at 4.5% ABV and 39 IBU.

CLUBHOUSE OATMEAL STOUT
GROVE BREW HOUSE

Another multi-medal winner in the Ontario Brewing Awards, the Clubhouse Stout kicks in at 4.7% ABV and 26 IBU. If you’re looking to try it in a meal, it’s fed to locally raised Wagyu cows which are then used in one of 2021’s Must Try Burgers in Windsor, the Pearson Steer.

WILLY’S SEASIDE STOUT
CRAFT HEADS BREWING CO.

Craft Heads is all about their tagline, “Beer for the Adventurous”, so we’ll let their description of the Willy speak for itself:

“With a whisper of Nori, this stout will glide as smoothly across your tongue as a dolphin glides through the waves. Enjoy on the beach with an onshore breeze, at home with a seafood meal, or anywhere you find yourself in need of a smooth, slightly salty stout.”

It packs a punch at 7.1% ABV.

SIMPLE MAN OATMEAL STOUT
FRANK BREWING COMPANY

The darkest and most intense brew from Frank Brewing is done in a true old-fashioned way. They say the recipe is a closely guarded secret, but, we can tell you it’s packed with pure goodness like Pilsner malt, Chocolate malt, and plenty of oats.

It also took home the gold medal at the 2017 Canadian Brewing Awards.

S.O.S. OATMEAL STOUT
CURED CRAFT BREWING

Mainland Canada’s southernmost brewery’s stout is enjoyable all year round. At 5.0% and 34 IBU, this stout has hints of dark chocolate with oats and stone fruit and is so velvety smooth on the mouth.

CHERRY WHITE CHOCOLATE GRACE CASK WHITE STOUT
BANDED GOOSE BREWING CO.

Who can resist anything described as black cherry and white chocolate?

To give a little background on it being a cask, according to Banded Goose:

“Cask Ale, or “Real Ale,” is a naturally carbonated beer served during an active secondary fermentation and served at room temperature from a hand pump. Residual yeast is present in cask ale: gobbling up remaining sugar and producing additional alcohol and trace amounts of carbon dioxide. This unfiltered ale is a staple in British Pubs and snooty beer joints across the world and is known for bearing the true flavour of beer: free from palate-numbing coldness or perceptually acidifying extraneous carbonation.”
