North 42 Degrees Estate Winery has become the very first Ocean Wise Designated restaurant in Southern Ontario.

Located on the shores of Lake Erie, the winery understands the importance of and cares deeply about oceans and freshwater lakes. As avid snorkelers and 3rd generation farmers, the owners, Martin and Suzanne Gorski dove right in at the idea of supporting our oceans when Chef Cameron MacDonald presented the idea.

“Being on the front line of the food service industry, it is our job as cooks and chefs to source and cook product responsibly in order to sustain for future generations. I feel it’s important to not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk”, says Chef Cameron.

Ocean Wise Seafood is an ocean conservation and sustainability program that empowers consumers and restaurants to choose sustainable seafood options that support healthy oceans, today and into the future. It’s not just a question of farmed or wild, our seafood menu choices reflect sustainable harvest methods and fisheries.

To launch the designation by Ocean Wise, the winery is participating in The National Chowder Chowdown Festival. Starting this Friday, February 5, 2021, their 42nd Parallel Souper Sustainable Seafood Chowder will be available for purchase with the following sustainable seafood:

  • Littleneck clams
  • PEI organic mussels
  • haddock
  • scallops
  • BC spot prawns
  • Atlantic salmon

The chowder is $24 per litre and $9 per bowl. It can be purchased hot or cold and comes with a wedge of house made bread.

During the month of February, North 42 Degrees Estate Winery are also donating a portion of proceeds to the non-profit Ocean Wise Seafood program for every chowder sold in the amount of $10 per litre. If you add a bottle of North 42 Degrees’ award winning Summer Chill white wine and they’ll donate another $1 per bottle sold.
