While it may be a holiday for most, Smoke N Spice is open and celebrating the launch of a new menu. It’s the biggest menu change in the restaurants 5 year history. Heck, owners Ryan and Tina Odette even renovated the place with a more cozy, benched seating area.
WindsorEats was given an advance taste of all 10 menu items (did we tell you we love our job?) and here is a list of our favourites.
7. Texas Cobb Salad
The salad that thought it was a meal. Romaine lettuce, smoked bacon, tomato, avocado, a hard-boiled egg, cheddar and your choice of dressing. We recommend the BBQ ranch sauce. You can have it with pulled chicken, but, we went with pulled pork because that’s how we roll.
6. Baja Fish Tacos
Looking for something lighter? This new menu item has got you covered. The Baja Fish Tacos are crispy fried pieces of Basa smothered in a creamy slaw, Pico de Gallo and chipotle mayo. Tina said this was her favourite new menu item and she stole one from us after this photo was taken.
5. Green Bird
If you’re not into pork or beef, the Green Bird is for you. It looks huge and heavy yet is surprisingly light and…well….still huge. This sandwich features smoke turkey breast topped with Jack cheese, smashed avocado, Pico de Gallo, arugula and ranch dressing.
4. Porky’s Revenge
This burger is nothing like its movie namesake. It’s good. Real good. A beef patty that’s cooked on a flat top griddle, it’s topped with Colby cheese, Smoke N Spice’s famous pulled pork, creamy slaw and their house-made Memphis Sweet barbeque sauce.
3. Smoked Meatloaf
This meatloaf was so good, some expletives and slaps were thrown chef Ryan’s way. Ok, we didn’t slap him, but the flavours in the revamped dish blew us away. The meatloaf is smoked, seared and served with barbeque onions, mashed potatoes and collard greens.
2. Meaty Mac
Ryan got slapped. Just when you thought the meatloaf couldn’t get any better, it got obscene. Piled with Smoke n Spice’s popular mac n’ cheese and placed in a brioche bun, there is no need to add any additional sauce to this. It’s perfect.
1. Fried Chicken & Waffles
They’re baaaaaack! We shed some tears when Ryan and Tina closed the doors to their Sweet T’s restaurant. We think they were a little bit ahead of their time when they introduced their Fried Chicken & Waffles dish a few years ago. The juiciest, most flavour packed fried chicken we’ve ever had has returned. Take that, Colonel! So, in the immortal words of LL Cool J, this dish would like to say, “don’t call it a comeback. I’ve been here for years!”
