It was a site to see walking into Smoke & Spice Southern Barbeque Restaurant. The restaurant has been a hit with customers the day the doors opened on September 18, 2008, and tonight was no exception. The place was a-bustlin’ the servers a-hustlin’! It was absolutely packed with couples, families with their children, etc. Even BBQ Bill was there!

Jill and I ordered onion rings, nachos and pulled pork. The pulled pork came with two sides so we decided to go with the Mac N’ Cheese and BBQ Beans.

After hearing all the great reviews from a number of people who had dined there already, I was pretty excited for the order to arrive at the table. My antsyness and excitement apparently showed as Jill gave me “the look” on multiple occasions. I couldn’t help it. The aromas wafting through the restaurant were driving me crazy and making me even hungrier than when we had first walked in.

In what was a surprisingly quick turn around time, considering the joint was packed with a one hour wait time for walk-ins, the food arrived. I must tell you, the pulled pork was everything I was told and then some. Even Jill enjoyed it. If you know Jill than you know how much that says about how good it was as she doesn’t eat meat too often.

I was absolutely focused on my meal, so much so that I hadn’t even noticed Jill raving about the Mac N’ Cheese. Jill, you see, is what we jokingly refer to as a connosieur of mac n’ cheese. Anytime someone I know offers her some, I get a little scared of the reaction Jill may have after tasting. She loves it that much. I don’t question it as my love for cashews is roughly the same. Good thing you can’t really go wrong with cashews. I also was so focused on eating the meal that I apparently didn’t have time to check if the photo I took was of a higher quality.

The side of beans were also amazing. Not sure if it was really appropriate, seeing that the pulled pork was succulent and already in it’s own great sauce, but, I was using the beans as a dunking “sauce” for the pork. I loved them both so much I just had to have them in one bite. The smoke on the pork was just right; noticable, but not overpowering, exactly as Chef Ryan said it would be. Needless to say, our plates were empty and our stomachs overly full after our meal.

It is definitely recommended you check out Smoke & Spice and be sure to let them know WindsorEats sent you. I can’t wait to go for round two and I promise better pictures!
