The lights are going out at 255 Ouellette on March 29, 2008…and it’s a good thing! Chanoso’s Restaurant, Oishii Sushi & Ultra Lounge and Buda Bistro will be turning off the power at 8 p.m. tonite as part of Earth Hour, a worldwide event where everyone is asked to turn off all lights and power for one hour.

“Although our restaurants support environmental and conservation causes, this was actually secondary to us,” says restaurateur Mark Boscariol. “When I first read about Earth Hour, it instantly reminded me of the most enjoyable evening I have ever spent downtown, August 14, 2003. That was the blackout where I witnessed first hand the potential that a sense of community could bring to our downtown.”

Boscariol would even like to see this happen as a monthly event in the summer.

“I believe it is an opportunity to improve quality of life through simplicity of lifestyle,” adds Boscariol.

Although Boscariol considers Oishii’s menu to be Earth Hour every hour, Chef Ted Dimoglou will provide a special sashimi salad to celebrate this event that will include assorted sashimi, cucumber, avocado, coriander, scallions, sesame seeds and citrus oil.

Buda Bistro and Chanoso’s will be serving Chef Jennifer Hillis’ Portabello Mushroom Pave which is a layered thinly sliced mushroom prepared in a comparable manner to lasagna.

Lighting will be by candlelight and entertainment will also be provided at the restaurants. Acoustic, of course.

And don’t forget to turn off your lights, computers or any equipment you keep on standby tonite at 8 p.m.!
