Have you ever wondered about the women who work in the fermentation industry? You’re in luck because an upcoming event at Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery is putting a spotlight on these remarkable women.

As we Embrace Equity this Women’s Day, we will hear what it’s like to be a female in a male dominated industry; in this case the production of beer, wine, and liquor.

Take In A Panel Discussion

The panel will include Tammy Joho (brewer at The Grove Brewing Co.), Tanya Mitchell (winemaker at Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery), Aislin Henrickson (distiller at Cottage Springs Beverage Co.), and Vanessa Pillon (brewer at Kingsville Brewery). Jen Desjardins-Grondin of GL Heritage Brewing Co. will act as the panel moderator.

Despite women being the original brewers, representation of women and minorities in the fermentation industry is extremely low. In Windsor-Essex, we are lucky to have numerous women that work in these industries and are very skilled at what they do.

The event takes place Saturday March 11, 2023, from 11am to 3:30pm at Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery. With the purchase of an $85 per person ticket, attendees will enjoy a luncheon and panel discussion with brewers, winemakers, and distillers while also sampling some of their creations. Guests will receive an exclusive tasting glass to keep at the end of the tasting.

The day will also include a silent auction with items and experiences donated from many local businesses, a raffle, and an optional documentary screening on Women in Beer at the conclusion of the discussion.

This luncheon is not just for women either! Anyone with an interest in fermentation, beer, wine, and/or liquor is welcome! Partial proceeds from auction and ticket sales will go to Amherstburg Community Services and Pink Boots Canada.

The event is all about celebrating the contributions that women have made to the fermentation industry, from creating unique flavours to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. It’s an opportunity to recognize and appreciate the amazing work that these women do every day.
