The historic water levels in the Detroit River have forced the postponement of WindsorEats’ popular annual gourmet dining experience, Dinner on a Pier.
After consultations with and recommendations by City of Windsor officials and the threat of water levels still rising, we’ve decided to postpone the culinary tourism experience.
Experts are indicating that water levels within the Detroit River will continue to rise over the next couple weeks. We want to ensure our guests are safe and while it is unfortunate that we’ve had to postpone the event, it was necessary.
The event is a signature culinary tourism experience for the region and postponing will also allow the dinner to be able to showcase the waterfront and city at its best.
Dinner on a Pier is about truly showcasing our waterfront and our city. With guests regularly coming from across Michigan and even as far as Kitchener for the dinner, showcasing our city at its best is important to us.
The culinary experience has become a highly talked about event among locals and visitors. It has also added a new way for people to connect with food, the waterfront and each other. A true dining experience is always as much about the company you’re with as it is the food. By placing a communal long-table down the middle of the pier, not assigning seating and serving a family-style dinner, it encouraged dialogue and interactivity with the meal among friends and strangers alike.
The culinary experience, in its fourth year, takes place every July and hosts 120 diners on the pier located alongside the Ambassador Bridge. The event sells out quickly each year and is a much anticipated event among food and drink lovers.
The new tentative date has been scheduled for September 12, 2019. Individuals who have purchased tickets for the sold out dinner will be given the opportunity to refund their tickets should they be unavailable for the new date.
