If for some reason you need more than one excuse to attend the very first Urban Wine Festival taking place this weekend, we’ve compiled 11 for you.

The Urban Wine Festival is taking place in Windsor, Ontario, June 28-29, 2019 and more than a few people are excited for many reasons. WindsorEats has been working really hard to differentiate this festival from other wine festivals you may have attended. With that being said, here’s our take on why you need to attend:

REASON #1: THERE’S A WINE FESTIVAL AGAIN!

Wine + Festival = Awesomeness. Seriously folks. There’s a festival for beer lovers and a festival for whisky lovers. Now, there’s finally a festival for wine lovers, again. If you love wine, love being outside in the summer and love festivals, this just may be the place to be for you.

REASON #2: LIVE & INTERACTIVE ART

Everyone knows about wine and paint nights. They’re pretty popular. Now, take that concept and put it on steroids (sorta). That’s pretty much what will be on display at the Urban Wine Festival.

The Art Lab will be on site creating artwork throughout the festival site over the entire weekend. As the festival goes on, the artwork will continue to grow and grow. The best part about the live art production is that festival attendees will be able to join in and leave their own mark. That means we want you to participate in creating a colourful space with us throughout the weekend.

There’ll even be some gorgeous and colourful art installations from Amy Mailloux hanging throughout the site. If you’ve been to the Whiskytown Festival you may recognize these stunning pieces.

REASON #3: IT’S GOING TO BE PRETTY

We'll be serving Bubbly & Rose along with other varietals at the Urban Wine Festival in Windsor, Ontario.

Not only will the artwork add to the prettiness, but just like we always do, we’ll also be adding some other special touches to spruce up the joint. I mean, like “oh my gosh look how cute the rink is” pretty. There’ll even be some “Instagrammable” spots just for you social media lovers.

Also, did we mention how great the festival branding on site will be?

REASON #4: A GREAT WINE LIST

We’ve been making a big deal about how the wines will be organized (by varietal, not by winery), because it is a big deal. That’s how people actually buy their wine. But, that’s not to take away from the great wine list being offered.

First, because our region can offer some of the best Cabernet Franc and Riesling in Ontario (even Canada), the Cab Franc and the Riesling booths will only be featuring local wineries. We want to shout from the rooftop how great those varietals are locally.

Second, we’ve partnered with Wineology, as they know a thing or two about international wines. They’ve carefully crafted a wine list for some of our other varietals that aren’t to be missed.

In addition to the Cab Franc and Riesling booths, the other varietals to be showcased at the Urban Wine Festival are Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose & Bubbly, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

REASON #5: SUMMER WEATHER IS FINALLY HERE

Summer breeeeeeze, makes me drink wine! Those are the lyrics, right? The forecast for festival weekend is hovering at 30 Celcius (that’s around 86 Fahrenheit for our American friends) and sunny. That’s pretty much perfect wine drinking weather. Who are we kidding?! All types of weather are wine drinking weather, but it really will be gorgeous out.

REASON #6: CAYMUS IS BEING SERVED

Today, Cabernet Sauvignon from Caymus Vineyards is one of the Napa region’s most celebrated wines and iconic wineries. Made from grapes farmed in 8 of Napa Valley’s 16 appellations, it has a signature style that is dark in colour, with rich fruit and ripe tannins – as approachable in youth as it is in maturity. Apparently, this wine has been hard to come by across Ontario lately. Thankfully, we’ve secured some just for you.

REASON #7: BEING GREEN WHILE DRINKING PURPLE & GOLD

While throwing a kick-ass wine party is one of or goals, we’re also want to make sure we’re doing it in a responsible and more environmentally sustainable manner. From our recyclable drinkware, to a facility that is solar powered to a ticketless and tokenless festival, we’re trying to do our part to leave as little waste behind and use as little resources possible.

REASON #8: NO WAITING IN LINE FOR TOKENS

Yes, we said tokenless system. All tokens within the festival will be purchased and spent directly from your mobile device. That means we’ve eliminated the token booth and you won’t have to wait in line when you run out of “tokens” to purchase any food or drink.

You can get a head start by downloading the Token Mobile app to your phone and even purchasing your “tokens” in advance.

REASON #9: WINE WITHOUT THE “WINE CULTURE”

It’s going to be an easy peasy, grapey squeezy kind of festival. One of the goals of the Urban Wine Festival is to break down some of the barriers and perceptions that some folks have with wine and wine drinkers. It’s all about being casual, relaxed and having fun, for wine novices and connoisseurs alike.

REASON #10: WOOD-FIRED OVEN PIZZAS

If there is a person who doesn’t love wood-fired oven pizzas, we don’t want to meet them. Wineology not only helped with the wine list, they will also be on site serving some of their popular wood-fired oven pizzas during the festival.

REASON #11: IT’S THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

Reward yourself! Whether you’re a parent or a teacher, it’s been a long school year. It’s time to start the summer season off right!

BONUS REASON: IT’S GREAT TO SUPPORT A FIRST YEAR FESTIVAL

Give yourself the feels about how great a person you are. We’d absolutely love your support to ensure the Urban Wine Festival lives on past it’s first year. Purchase your tickets in advance and tell all your friends where you’re heading.
