Do you feel that?  Do you sense something different in the air?  It’s change.  And it’s coming our way.  This past weekend marked the opening of the Downtown Farmers Market for the season and the re-launch of the Grown Right Here campaign by the Windsor Essex Development commission.

What does it all mean?  It means that people are starting to ask for local and are demanding it.  So much so that it warrants the creation of new farmers markets and the return of old ones.  Earlier this month the Amherstburg Farmers Market made it’s debut.  We now have the ability to have local food delivered to our front doors by new businesses such as County Connect and Trusty Food To You.

WindsorEats participated in both events over the weekend and we were able to speak to so many people and hear how excited they were about having access to locally grown produce and meat.  I headed to the opening of the farmers market while Adriano spent time at Sobey’s for the Grown Right Here event.   The Sobey’s at Tecumseh Mall is now carrying local products!

For over six years Adriano and I have been talking about the benefits of supporting local.  Our Go Local buttons are a hit and you are going to be seeing more and mor people wearing them as they add their support to the movement.  People are taking pride in what is grown in Essex County.

To see the incredible change that has taken place in our region over the past six years has been overwhelming.  Farmers markets are springing up, grocery stores are carrying products from local farms and people are demanding it.

We always encourage you to take advantage of everything we have locally.  We are fortunate to live in an abundant region.  Whether it is taking  a trip to the farm, winery or a local restaurant, it’s always important to support our local businesses.  They are really what makes this region unique.
