Looking for what to drink at the inaugural Urban Wine Festival is taking place June 28-29, 2019 in Lanspeary Park, Windsor, Ontario? We got ya.

The festival will be a blending of art and wine with an urban feel, hence the name. While we’re located in an award winning wine region, the festival will be putting some of the locals up alongside some great international wines. In fact, we sat down with the lovely folks from Wineology and handpicked the list for maximum enjoyment. Also, Wineology staff will be present and serving, sharing their vast knowledge of wine with festival goers.

When you’re purchasing your tickets for the festival, please note that the festival is using a cashless/tokenless system. In fact, we won’t even have a token booth on site! Everything will be handled through your own personal cell phone. You just need to download the Token Mobile app and take it from there. You’ll even be able to purchase your food and beverage tokens in advance so you can just walk in and start enjoying.

Back to the wines, while some wineries will be standalone, several of the tents will also be featuring solely specific varieties from around the world. The list below will continue to have wines and wineries added as we get closer to the festival. That being said, here’s a peek as to what will be served at the 2019 Urban Wine Festival.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Trapiche (Argentina)
Deep ruby red colour; cassis, plum, raisin and bell pepper aroma; dry, medium-full body and medium intensity fruit flavour, forward tannin in the finish.

Manage a Trois (Napa)
Lush, garnet-hued blend will thrill you with its berry flavors, firm tannins and long, sumptuous finish. You’ll be spoiled by the richness of glorious grapes sourced from not one, not two, but three of California’s grand growing regions where deliciously grown grapes reign supreme.

Caymus (Napa)
From one of Napa’s pioneering families and possessing all the signature lush flavours and aromas of premium Cali Cabs — crème de cassis, cocoa, anise and cardamom — this is definitely a trophy wine.

MERLOT

Les Jamelles (France)
A deep ruby colour with forward dark fruit aromas that include black berries, currants and cherries; medium body, easy drinking.

Las Mulas (Chile)
Deep ruby with purple highlights; the nose offers moderate aromas of mixed red berry, plum, black cherry, and toasted oak; the palate is dry and medium-bodied with medium acid and tannins with concentrated flavours of black cherry, plum and vanilla followed by a medium length finish.

Gatto Negro (Chile)
Bright ruby colour; gentle red fruit aromas with hints of licorice; dry, medium to full-bodied, with sweet berry fruit flavours and a moderate to long pleasant finish.

PINOT GRIGIO

Trapiche (Argentina)
Trapiche is Argentina’s largest fine wine exporter. This refreshing and versatile pinot grigio has pronounced aromas of ripe pear, lemon, marzipan and tropical fruit. Dry, with balanced acidity and medium body. Ripe tropical fruit and citrus flavours, and hints of spice and minerality.

Santa Margherita (Italy)
LCBO Vintages releases thousands of wines each year, and this is consistently a top seller. It put Pinot Grigio on the map with its refreshing green apple, peach and citrus notes.

The Vinecrafter (South Africa)
While this wine isn’t a Pinot Grigio, the Chenin Blanc carries a lot of the same characteristics. Chenin blanc is South Africa’s most planted grape variety, and this example is brimming with aromas and flavours of white peach, pear, green apple and lemon.

SAUVIGNON BLANC

Big Bill (South Africa)
This label pays tribute to the legendary first manager of South Africa’s KWV wine company, Bill Millar. All of the hallmark sauvignon blanc character, with lime, melon and herbal notes leading the way. Light-bodied, with lively acidity.

Villa Maria (New Zealand)
Pale straw colour; intense aromas of gooseberry, lime, grass and asparagus; dry, medium bodied, crisp acidity, and flavours of bell pepper, gooseberry citrus; clean, crisp finish.

Trapiche (Argentina)
Another blend to showcase the versatility of this particular varietal. The Astica Sauvignon Semillon has pale straw yellow colour; intense peachy/grassy, slightly tropical nose; dry on the palate, with citrusy/peach fruit flavours, herbal notes, moderate acidity and finish.

ROSÉ & BUBBLY

Folonari Rosé (Italy)
Pinot grigio grapes are a pale coppery pink colour. When crushed, an extended period of skin contact gives the wine a pale salmon pink colour. Expect fragrant apple, pear, floral and tropical fruit aromas. On the palate the wine is crisp and light-bodied, with strawberry and rhubarb flavours. Perfect for being al fresco!

Santa Margherita Prosecco (Italy)
We’ve heard this Prosecco is a celebrity favourite. That’s not surprising because it is distinctive, rich and fresh with vibrant, satisfying bubbles. From the producer of Vintages’ top-selling white wine, this sparkler over-delivers for the price.

Veuve Champagne (France)
Pale lemon with fine bubbles; the nose is filled with aromas of apple, pear, toast and brioche; the palate is extra-dry and medium to full body with flavours that match the aromas.

CABERNET FRANC

Aleksander Estate Winery (EPIC, Canada)
With it’s beautiful garnet colour, the 2009 Cabernet Franc opens with the juicy flavours of red berries and sweet cherries. Berry flavours linger in the finish.

Pelee Island Winery (EPIC, Canada)
The Vinedressers series is a premium and exclusive line up of wines only available at Pelee Island Winery in limited quantities. Deep red in colour. Incredibly alluring red wine with aromas of chocolate and sweet herbs, while lots of immediate fruit notes dance on the palate.

Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery (EPIC, Canada)
The Lady in Red from Sprucewood is a blend that can show you another side of Cab Franc. This elegant red from the shores of Lake Erie greets you with aromas of ripe red berry fruit; dancing on the medium-bodied palate with flavours of vanilla, plum, and raspberry. Dry with medium acidity this balanced red finishes with soft and supple tannins.

RIESLING

Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery (EPIC, Canada)
Awaken your senses with a bright and distinct peach and citrus nose, followed by a refreshing green apple finish. Recently a gold medal winner at the All Canadian Wine Championships.

Aleksander Estate Winery (EPIC, Canada)
Delicate citrus, peach and floral notes define the Late Autumn Riesling. A sweet wine with crisp acidity and apple, honey flavours.

Pelee Island Winery (EPIC, Canada)
Pale lemon in colour with a fragrant orchard fresh aroma and delicate citrus bouquet. A refreshing white wine with a long and slightly sweet finish.

MALBEC

Susano Balbo (Argentina)
This Malbec Signature Rose is an elegant salmon colour. On the nose it shows a delicate, subtle florality with aromas of strawberry and cherry. In the mouth, its fresh and juicy acidity pair perfectly with flavors of strawberry and red currant. Very good balance and structure.

Chakana Estate (Argentina)
A new facet of Chakana wines, this is a blend of malbec from Altamira and Gualtallary that’s aged mainly in cement (60%) and the rest in used oak. The fruit is simply delicious–crisp, acidic, and full of cherry notes. It’s a red that beautifully expresses its origin–a mountain wine with all those red fruit notes and herbs and spices, too. And the texture seems to grip the palate powerfully as if it won’t let go until it gets a nice big piece of grilled beef.

Château Croze de Pys (France)
Prestige Malbec Cahors.
