One of the best things about the turning of the calendar year is the anticipation of all the great things the new year will bring. Within 2019 almost upon us, WindsorEats is taking a look at six big things we’re hearing about and anticipating for 2019.

THE BEER SCENE CONTINUES TO GROW

Walkerville Brewery take their beer seriously.

The local beer scene will continue to boom in 2019. One highly anticipated brewery, Kingsville Brewery, will finally open their own location which is currently going through construction. We expect no less than 6 breweries opening or expanding in 2019, which will help continue to build up this region as a food and drink lovers paradise. Also, think of all the one offs that would be available as a result at the Windsor Craft Beer Festival!

Speaking of beer and breweries…

“GOURMET PUB” EXPECTED TO OPEN IN WALKERVILLE

Over the last couple years, the historic Walkerville neighbourhood has really been the trendy hot spot to see and be seen in Windsor. By March, there will be a new addition to the scene with a “gourmet pub” expected to open.

From what we can gather, the menu items will all be made from scratch with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients. We’re hearing from house sourdough, hand cranked pasta and even the mustard made from scratch. There even seems to be plans to make their own small batch beers.

THE REGION CONTINUES TO MAKE A NAME FOR ITSELF AS WHISKYTOWN CANADA

Not only is the Whiskytown Festival anticipating some exciting growth for its second year on August 10, but, we’re also expecting an expansion of experiences and events focused on whisky throughout the region. Heck, a local band even took it upon themselves to write a Christmas song about Whiskytown.

THE RETURN OF A WINE FESTIVAL

Even though we have an award winning wine region pumping out quality vino, it’s been years since a wine festival was held within Windsor-Essex. That’s finally going to change in 2019. The Cab Franc Festival is to take place June 28-29 and put a focus on the wine the area does best: Cabernet Franc. Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of other varietals to enjoy, too.

STREET FOOD FESTIVAL RETURNS X 2

WindsorEats will host not just one Street Food Festival, but, two in the coming year! The last two years, the event has been packed with food lovers chowing down everything available. This year we’ll be hosting on in May as well as in July.

The best part (aside from the food) is that it’s an event the entire family can go to and enjoy, yet the adults can still be adults and enjoy some alcoholic beverages.

POP-UP RESTAURANTS

The perfect Instagrammable moments are aplenty at Dinner on a Pier in Windsor, Ontario. Oh, and the food is spectacular!

Pop up restaurants aren’t a new thing, but, they’re still very exciting. We’re expecting to see more of these happening throughout Windsor and the surrounding communities in 2019.

Phog Lounge has begun opening their kitchen to chefs looking to expand their following or wanting to try something new. In breaking news, we at WindsorEats are also working on a special four part pop up restaurant series at a unique location beginning in February. Stay tuned for when we’re ready to announce the full details. It’s going to be exciting!
