Scotch Ales, a member of the pale ale family, normally pack a punch in the 6.5% to 10% range. It is this fact, in addition to Scottish brewers originally selling them in small 6oz bottles called “wee” bottles in the 1800’s, that Scotch Ale is also referred to as “Wee Heavy”.
