If there ever was a time for residents or visitors to get out and enjoy Windsor-Essex, this week is it.

There is such a huge motherload of events taking place this weekend there should be at least one or two for everyones likings:

June 1, 2010, 4:00pm to 10:0pm: Grand Opening Party for Slice of Style and WindsorEats

Get your friends together and help us celebrate our Grand Opening as we, along with and in huge part because of Slice of Style, are moving downtown!

Kelly from Slice of Style approached us with a unique partnership the other month: office space in return for promotion. WindsorEats and Slice of Style has had a great relationship since they hosted their first Eat Your City event in 2009.

The evening will feature appetizers from Chanosos and Oishii, local wines, chocolate fountains with fresh strawberries for dipping and music from a WindsorEats favourite, DJ Rolls Royce.

June 4: Poor Boy Luncheon

The 34th annual Poor Boy Luncheon will tale place Friday, June 4, 2010 at the old Armouries in downtown Windsor from 11:00am to 3:00pm.

Tickets are $6.00 each in advance or $7.00 at the door.

They will be serving a Memphis Style Pulled Pork Sandwich and coleslaw.

In 2009 the event raised over $11,000 for cystic fibrosis research and treatment programs and they are hoping for an even more successful 2010.

June 4-6: Art in the Park

It’s official – Art In The Park has snagged one of Ontario’s top new bands to headline its first-time ever Friday night pre-show entertainment event.

The renowned Sunparlour Players will headline Blues & Roots Night at Willistead Park on Friday evening June 4 – the night before the gates open for the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918)’s 32nd annual Art In The Park to be
held Saturday and Sunday June 5 and 6.

Also on tap for the lively Blues and Roots program are Ron Leary and Kelly Hoppe, the Johnny Rocca Band and Johnny V Blues.

The gates open at 4:30 p.m., the music starts at 5:00 and continues nonstop through 11:00 p.m. Admission will be just $10.00.

The Willistead Park gates open for Art In The Park at 10:00 a.m.  Saturday. This year, also for the first time, vendors have extended their sales hours to 7:00 p.m. More than 250 artists and artisans from across Ontario and Quebec will again display their creative handiworks in attractive booths and displays arranged around the park perimeter.

Children will have their own special entertainment venue in the kids’ Playsphere — another new feature this year. Beer, wine and other refreshments will again be available in the Spirit Tent, which will also host musical programs on Saturday and Sunday.

June 4-6: LaSalle Strawberry Festival

Originally started by a group of volunteers to promote the local strawberry growers and get folks ready to pick berries the following week or so, the LaSalle Strawberry Festival has grown into one of the longest running, free festivals in the area with over 30,000 visitors each year!

This year the main attraction on the entertainment stage will be Canadian rock stars, Default.

June 5: Mastronardi Estate Winery’s Dionysus

Set on the vineyards of Mastronardi Estate Winery, Dionysus has quickly become a fantastic, fun filled event and a great fundraiser.

Joining the stage with booked artists, Pavlo, Brownman Ali and Canadian Funny-man Frank Spadone will be none other than Canadian Music Hall of Famer Rik Emmett – founding member of 1980’s monster group Triumph, and Juno-Winning Guitar Virtuoso Oscar Lopez.

June 5-6: Red Bull Air Race

The ever popular Red Bull Air Race is back in Windsor for 2010.

The Red Bull Air Race World Championship features the world’s best pilots in a motor sports competition based on speed, precision and skill. Using the fastest, most agile and lightweight racing planes, Red Bull Air Race pilots navigate a low-level aerial race track made up of air filled pylons, flying at speeds reaching 230 mph while withstanding forces of up to 12g.

In a great addition for 2010, fans in the race zone will be able to experience the food of some great local restaurants including:

Downtown Windsor’s streets will also be closed and restaurants and bars throughout the core will be setting up extended patios to celebrate the great weekend that is to come.

Four entertainment stages will also be setup providing live entertainment throughout the weekend.

June 5-6: Sip Into Summer

Wine and food enthusiasts alike will enjoy noshing and sipping their way across the county on the first weekend of June. Taste award winning VQA wines paired with culinary treats prepared with locally grown produce & fresh herbs. Guests will receive recipes to try at home and a potted plant to grace their garden.

Visitors can enter the “Sip Into Summer” contest for a chance to win a gift basket featuring a bottle of wine from each participating winery as well as individual door prizes.

Don’t miss this chance to “support local” and experience all that Lake Erie North Shore (LENS) has to offer.
