Pina, Rose and Anthony walking back up the trail to Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery

On Friday, Adriano and I took a drive to the county to take a look at the route for the upcoming July 18, 2009 Wine Trail Ride.  We invited along my brother, Anthony and my sister, Rose, since she’s visiting from Dublin, Ireland.  After a few screams of “I wanna go! I wanna go!”  from our 3 year old nephew, Evan, we strapped him into the car too.  And off we went to the county!

We made our way to newly signed Colchester Ridge Estate Winery, (CREW) and then drove towards Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery.

Rose bought a bottle of Riesling to enjoy later that night with a seafood salad my mom was preparing.   If you haven’t been to Sprucewood Shores before it’s a beautiful building located right on the Lake Erie shoreline.  I’ve been to weddings held at the estate and it’s always been nothing short of spectacular.

After leaving Sprucewood Shores we drove down County Road 50 toward Holiday Beach Conservation Area and had to slow down for something that was crossing the road ahead.  None of us had any idea what it was from afar, but as we got closer (and after a few guesses like “I think it’s a peacock” and “Is it an emu?”), we realized it was a wild turkey.

Never even seen one before.  Have to be honest….kinda ugly.  Not really anything like the turkeys you see on TV.  Apparently this region is quite well known for it’s wild turkey hunting.  Who knew?

All in all it was a great day and a nice reminder of why this part of the world is so great.  Award winning wineries, great coastline, wild turkeys.  It really is all here.
