Corks & Kegs tasting event

Savour the award-winning selection of wines from our region’s world-class wineries and celebrate the revival of premium craft beer from Walkerville Brewery!

When things are going well, it’s more than appropriate to share the wealth, of flavour that is. Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island, Essex Pelee Island Coast Winegrowers and WindsorEats couldn’t agree more. The three organizations have teamed up to bring you “Cork & Kegs – The Taste of Heritage.” A dozen local wineries, Walkerville Brewery and The Junior Culinary Guild of Windsor are aiming to tantalize taste buds with local drink and culinary talents.

“Having an event like this is a natural.” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island. “Let’s remember that back in May, local wineries took home a record 32 medals at the All Canadian Wine Championships. We’re here to share and show off what we produce, effectively putting a very bright spotlight on Windsor Essex. That same spotlight can be focused on Walkerville Brewery. This brewery has revived a local brand originally released more than a century ago. You could say this event was more than a hundred years in the making.”

Adriano Ciotoli, Co-owner of WindsorEats, can’t hide his excitement for this event. “WindsorEats has worked hard over the last eight years to transform and promote Windsor Essex as a top of mind culinary tourism destination, but it can’t be done without buy-in from small businesses. Events like this make it easier for those businesses to put a local touch on their menus or on their shelves by bringing quality Windsor Essex products directly to them to sample. Bridging the gap between the producers and the restaurants is integral to having everyone on the same page and promoting the special and unique products our region has, not only to visitors, but to residents also.”

The event takes place Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Walkerville Brewery, 525 Argyle Road. Restaurant owners and managers are invited to visit between 2:00pm and 4:30pm to sample potential new wines and beer for their establishments.

The event then opens to the public from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. Tickets are $55 at the door.
