Let the celebrations begin!

North 42 Degrees Estate Winery has had four of its 2016 wines receive medals at InterVin International Wine Awards, as well as five wines that received high ratings from New York wine critic John Gilman, and three wines received high ratings from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

InterVin International Wine Awards is designed to recognize and celebrate the very best wines available to Canadian consumers. North 42° received Honours for its 2016 Sweet Riesling, 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2016 Sauvignon Blanc. The 2016 Cabernet Franc received a Silver Medal. Full results will be made public in early October and top honourees published in an upcoming issue of Vines magazine.
John Gilman, publisher of the world-renowned magazine View from the Cellar reviewed five of North 42’s 2016 wines. The ratings are as follows:

  • 2016 Sweet Riesling – 87
  • 2016 Sauvignon Blanc – 89
  • 2016 Riesling – 91
  • 2016 Gewürztraminer – 91+
  • 2016 Reserve Riesling – 92+

Gilman included these five selections in the magazine’s bi-annual report on North American wines. While John Gilman may not be a household name, he is highly respected by industry professionals around the globe. Olivier Krug of the Krug Champagne House stated that Gilman, “…knows more about wine than anybody else in the world.” (Westchester Magazine, Aug. 28, 2014)

Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s ratings for three of North 42’s 2016 wines echo Gilman’s. The magazine, with a combined print and online readership of 3 million, rated the 2016 Riesling at 87, the Sweet Riesling at 87, and the Gewürztraminer at 88. The results will be published in December.

North 42 winemaker, Jan Schulte-Bisping, is pleased with the outcome, “these ratings speak to the strength of the 2016 vintage and to the growing quality and reputation of our region as a whole.” Schulte-Bisping continued, “following the harsh winters in 2014 and 2015 that resulted in no wines being produced, we are particularly thrilled with the attention the 2016s are receiving.” Jan, who has made wine in Germany, South Africa, and California, joined the winery’s team last year. The 2016 vintage is his first as winemaker at North 42.

The ratings and awards come as North 42 nears the completion of its construction on a new building to house retail wine sales, the Serenity Lavender Farm store, and Bistro 42 with Executive Chef Steve Meehan. The new building will be opening later this fall.

The accolades also accompany new releases into the LCBO. North 42 Degrees Estate Winery 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon will enter select LCBO stores next month, and the 2016 Cabernet Franc has been accepted by Vintages at LCBO and will be released province-wide in stores early in 2018.

The 2016 vintage is the seventh since the winery produced its first wines in 2011. The awards and recognition continue the outstanding work begun by owners Martin Gorski and Suzanne Dajczak.

Congratulations!!!
