When you’ve been in business for 20 years, you know what works and Cheapo Fillippo’s Eats and Drinks, located at 5275 Walker Road, definitely has a recipe for success. Owners, Virginia and Phil Houtteman take a great deal of pride in each meal served and it’s reflected in the loyal clientele that they’ve built up over the past two decades.

“We have a good local following, people that come in everyday,” explains Virginia.”We fax about 60 companies our specials everyday. People call their orders in and when they sit down their food is ready. We’ve been doing it for years.”

Nominated for Homestyle Cooking in the 2008 Biz X Oscars, Cheapo Fillippo’s has been a staple in the Essex County restaurant industry. But what is it that makes Cheapo Fillippo’s great? Well, it’s the details. It’s what customers should expect from any restaurant. Soups made from scratch every day, hand packed burgers, produce that comes from Essex County. They even roast their own turkey for their deli sandwiches, use real bacon for the BLTs and bona fide cheese for their burgers.

“We get all our tomatoes from Leamington,” says Virginia. “A gentleman comes to our door and delivers them to us each week. The meat for our burgers is Ontario corn fed beef. We support and buy from local suppliers and in turn support the community.”

Cheapo Fillippo’s lunch menu ranges from soups and salads to deli sandwiches and burgers. So whether it’s the Canadian Burger, a hand packed 6 oz burger on a toasted kaiser with lettuce, tomatoes, peameal bacon and real cheddar or the special of the day, you can get a fantastic lunch for under $10.

New to the Cheapo Fillippo’s repertoire is their Chili To Go. The restaurants has packaged their well known chili into a one litre mason jar. If you’re in a rush, grab a jar, a baguette, heat it up and you have the makings of a great meal.

Cheapo Fillippo’s is open Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 6:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
