Iconic Amherstburg Meat & Deli Shop To Close After 54 Years

After 54 years of serving the Windsor-Essex community with pride, Romano’s Specialty Meats and Italian Deli in Amherstburg, Ontario, is closing its doors. The Mancini family has announced their retirement, marking the end of an era for this beloved local business.

A Heartfelt Farewell

Since opening in 1970, Romano’s has been a cornerstone of Amherstburg, providing quality meats and Italian deli products. In a heartfelt message, the Mancini family expressed their gratitude to the community:

“Since opening Romano’s Specialty Meats and Italian Deli in 1970, we have been humbled and blessed to operate our business for 54 years, in our hometown of Amherstburg. Now, we made the decision to retire effective mid-September. This decision, made with thoughtful consideration, was challenging, but we are eager to create new memories in this next chapter with our family and friends.”

Upholding Core Values

The Mancini’s have always valued integrity, respect, and pride, principles they continue to uphold as they retire:

“While serving the Windsor/Essex community, we have valued ourselves upon the principles of integrity, respect, and pride. We are upholding these same principles as we announce our retirement and close our business that we have lovingly called home for so long.”

A Family Affair

Romano’s was not just a business but a family legacy. The Mancini’s acknowledged the dedication of their staff, who have become like family over the years:

“To our staff, we thank you. Undoubtedly, we would not be Romano’s without our staff. We are so fortunate to have the five generations of dedicated staff, from parents to their kids, and then to their grandkids, work alongside us and offer you the highest quality of customer service daily. These special individuals are not only our staff, but they have come to feel like family.”

Gratitude to Loyal Customers

The Mancini family extended their deepest gratitude to their loyal customers who have supported them over the decades:

“We also offer our most sincere gratitude to you, our devoted and loyal customers, as you have continuously supported us throughout the years. From near and far, you have helped us grow and thrive as a business, always warmly receiving our unique products and services. We have also loved growing alongside your families. Seeing new generations of smiling faces each week has truly warmed our hearts.”

Final Days and Farewell

As they prepare to retire, the Romano’s encourage customers to use their gift cards and note the business will be closed for vacation from August 5th to August 13th, reopening on August 14th. The deli will officially close in mid-September.

“We look forward to continuing to serve you throughout the summer and until we close in mid-September. Even though our doors may be closing, and the end of an unforgettable era is approaching, we will always be Romano’s.”

Romano’s Specialty Meats & Deli will be fondly remembered by the community for its quality products, friendly service, and the sense of family it brought to Amherstburg.

We’re definitely going to miss their famous porchetta, which we would get each year for our celebration of Rome’s birthday.

Here’s to 54 years of delicious memories and the legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who loved it. We encourage everyone to head out there before mid-September and help them go out with a bang!
