30 Days of Local Wine – Day Sixteen: Mastronardi Estate Winery, 2007 Cabernet Franc (VQA)
Hints of caraway seeds and anise fill the bouquet of this herbaceous Cabernet Franc from Mastronardi Estate Winery. Flavours of damson plum and sweet cherry fill the middle palate, along with a smooth lingering finish. This wine is an absolute must with prime rib.
On his recent visit to MEW, renowned wine expert Michael Pinkus of the Ontario Wine Review had this to say about the 2007 Cabernet Franc:
“From the almighty 2007 vintgae comes this beauty of a wine with spiced oak, vanilla, cinnamon and black raspberry on the nose. Palate-wise there’s tobacco, raspberry, vanilla, black cherry and a lovely smooth-through-the-mouth finish.”

Gary Killops of Essex Wine Review agrees with the high rating of this wine stating the “taste is a perfect balance of sweetness and tannins. They just don’t get any smoother that this one.”
This bottle received a 4.5/5 star rating from Mr. Pinkus and available at a retail price of only $12.95.
