Original Chanoso’s Restaurant founder/chef Paul Chanko returns to his old haunts on Thursday, July 22, 2010 for a special event: an Oyster Party!
“Over the years, the rumour mill has generated all sorts of insinuations and innuendo about Chanosos relationship with Paul” states current owner Mark Boscariol.
“I saw this as an opportunity to quell those rumpled while at the same time sending a message to our customers that with new ownership, Chanosos is looking to a new future while always honouring and being true to our past.”
The evening begins at 7:00pm and there will be fresh oyster shooters and cocktails all night!
“Oysters seemed like a perfect way to showcase Pauls chef skills while celebrating his vivacious personality and showmanship” added Mark.
As you may or may not have heard WindsorEats, in partnership with the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association and with the support of Chanoso’s Restaurant and Oishii Sushi Bar, is putting on an outdoor film screening of The Princess Bride on Friday, August 6, 2010.
Well, we’re in need of volunteers to help make the night go as smoothly as possible and are putting the call out to our faithful followers.
If you are interested in being a part of a great family event in the downtown core, please email me at info@windsoreats.com.
The polls are closed and the film for our free outdoor film screening on Friday, August 6, 2010 has been confirmed: The Princess Bride.
This film is one of my all-time favourites and has so many memorable quotes.
We are still in the middle of securing some good, ol’ fashioned family activities but we know we will be having popcorn and cotton candy vendors, a book reading, cup cake designing and more! We’ll be releasing more information as it comes along.
This is going to be a great experience as the film will be taking place right smack dab in the middle of Chatham St. W. between Ouellette Ave. and Ferry St.
Get your blankets and lawn chairs ready to watch a fantastic film under the night sky and help us spread the word of what should be a great night in the heart of Downtown Windsor!

Each week many families choose to cycle to the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market and fill their panniers with local bounty. This week the market celebrates this gas-free option with “Windsor Cycles”. The event takes place on Saturday, July 10th, 2010, starting at 8am with cycling themed activities that include:
“Cycling is a fun and healthy activity and we want to celebrate it and encourage residents to discover the market by riding over,” says Victoria Rose, one of the event organizers. “Get on your bike and get down to the market!”
In addition to the cycling theme, the live entertainment continues this week and includes a performance by the Windsor Symphony Orchestra. Visitors are encouraged to sit and relax while they enjoy the music and surroundings.
Bike Friendly Windsor, a cycling advocacy group looking for new members, knows that there are already a lot of cyclists at the market and they will hold their next meeting there on July 17th at 10am. Market volunteers hope that more of the community will see the market space as a place to gather.

Pina, Jillian and I are excited to be there this weekend promoting our Wine Trail Rides. Both Jillian and I rode our bikes down there this past weekend to stock up on some local goodness and left very satisfied. We bumped into many, many people we knew including Victoria, Linda of Taloola Cafe (who have a “booth” set up there. You gotta check it out!) and Andrew ofInternational Metropolis and I’ve been eating probiotic yogourt with local cherries cut up into it all week! Yum yum!

This summer, WindsorEats will be hosting an outdoor film screening in Downtown Windsor. In conjunction with the film, we are planning activities of all sorts to keep singles, couples and families entertained throughout the evening.
To involve the residents of Windsor-Essex we are asking you what movie we should play! Choose one of the ones we’re contemplating or pick your own.

If you saw our Facebook or Twitter account last night, you would have seen that Pina and I were popping up all over the city. So many things were happening last night and it reminded me of just how much I love summer in Windsor.
I started off at The Trews concert at the Old Armouries in downtown Windsor. They had an acoustic show as part of Summerfest and put on an incredible show. The place was packed and it was nice to see the old building being put to good use.
The Windsor Symphony Orchestra will be performing there tonight. The doors open at 6:0pm and wine from Pelee Island Winery, Aleksander Estate Winery and Mastronardi Estate Winery will be available to purchase by the glass as well as some food from Mick’s Irish Pub.
I also managed to check out a few of the Carrousel of Nations villages that are happening throughout the city this weekend. The Greek, Italian and Caribbean villages were all jumping as usual and the food…oh my the food!
Get out and enjoy yourself this weekend as there is an abundance of things happening throughout the region!
Just like last weekend, Windsor will be absolutely jumping with activity this weekend.

The Carrousel of Nations continues for its 2nd and final weekend of 2010. Villages that will be taking place are:
The Italian Village is one of the most popular destinations and is held right in the heart of Windsor’s Via Italia. Restaurants such as Il Gabbiano, Pasticcio, La Zingara, Centro, La Contessa and others will have extended patios into the streets and good times will be had.

Along with their extended patio, Mezzo Ristorante will be hosting their monthly Supper Club on Friday, June 26, 2010. Dinner reservations begin at 7:30pm, and as always, Mezzo turns “club” at 9:00pm.
If you can’t make it for dinner, meet some friends for a fabulous Mezzo martini after 9:00pm.
Mezzo’s special menu for the evening will look like this:
Course One:
Mezzo Bruschetta
crostini topped with roasted sweet peppers, marinated tomatoes, goat cheese and caramelized onions
Mixed Green Salad
mixed greens, ripened tomatoes, red onions and cucumbers tossed in a white balsamic vinaigrette
Course Two: (please choose one of the following)
Pollo Mezzo
bacon wrapped chicken breast stuffed with oven dried cranberries, wild mushrooms and goat cheese with a champagne cream sauce, served with an apple wood smoked cheddar mash and daily vegetable
or
Veal Saltimbocca
pan seared Provimi veal topped with prosciutto and fontina cheese accompanied with fettuccine in a fresh tomato sauce
or
Tilapia Puttanesca
pan seared and braised tilapia filet with capers, anchovies, green olives and red onions in a white wine fresh tomato sauce over top fettuccine
Course Three:
Vanilla Crème Brûlée
Traditional French Vanilla flavoured baked custard
Each month, Mezzo’s Supper Club spotlights a local charity to benefit from this event. For June’s Supper Club, they are pleased to announce that they have chosen Lady Lumps Dragon Boat Team. This team will be rowing for Breast Cancer for The Dragon Boats for the Cure.
Tickets are $40per person . If you are interested please contact Filip at filip@mezzo.ca or call 519.252.4055.
Summerfest also continues this weekend with fantastic local act Michou opening up for popular Canadian group The Trews who will be playing an acoustic set at the Old Armouries in downtown Windsor. Tickets are $10. More info on purchasing tickets can be found on the Summerfest website.

It’s Fine Art and Fine Wine at Pelee Island Winery on June 26 and 27 this weekend. They invite you to see the talent of our local artists as they display their fine art on the front yard at the winery. Rain or shine Pelee Island Winery will be having their barbeque set up with food and refreshments for sale with sales going towards a local charity. There will also be complimentary wine tastings and free tours all weekend.
Those are just a few of the events going on this weekend in Windsor-Essex. We highly encourage you to go out and participate in them. As Pina and I always say, it is up to you to make the city and region you want to live in great. Or in a not so nice way, “use it or lose it”!
This weekend I’ll be speaking at a cycling conference being held at the University of Windsor.

The conference will be discussing legal issues, planning, infrastructure, promotion, advocacy as they relate to cycling in our region. I’ll be discussing cycling tourism, our success with the Wine Trail Ride and the arrival of the Bike Train.
It’s going to be a great conference and it will be interesting to hear what other cities are doing and how our city can grow it’s own cycling infrastructure and culture.
