Breakfast and brunch are arguably the best meals on the planet. They, especially brunch, have become so much more than eating. They’ve become a movement, a religion and a lifestyle choice. Breakfast and brunch promote human happiness.

So here’s a list of some top notch breakfast and brunch spots in Windsor that provide you with your classic breakfast favourites, as well as their own personal creations that I promise will change your life forever. Brunch can even do that…

Robbie’s Gourmet Sausage Co. at the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market

Robbie’s Gourmet Sausage Co. can cook up more than just delicious sausages and the proof is in his magical breakfast sandwich that instantly makes you happy. This beauty includes a juicy English banger patty on a toasted ciabatta bun with melted farmers cheese, a runny egg and topped with maple aioli. Sold last year for the first time, this sandwich has taken on a life of it’s own and is sought after by hundreds of patrons of the Downtown Windsor Farmer’s Market.

Lakeside Bakery has been a very well known spot in the Leamington community for almost 20 years, providing customers some of the freshest and most delicious breakfast items in town. Their famous Hungry Man breakfast will keep you full until dinner and beyond, with heaping portions of eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, roasted potato nuggets and obviously your choice of fresh bread. Being a bakery, their specialty is obviously bread, so you can’t skip on their mouth watering cinnamon apple french toast that’s baked fresh daily and topped off with icing sugar and syrup.

South Detroit

South Detroit just started offering an all day breakfast menu and I’ll speak for the people of Downtown Windsor when I say “BOOYA”. There are few places that provide a delicious brunch menu in the Downtown area, let alone allow the downtown dwellers to arise at any time and feast on breakfast all day long! They offer many crazy yet delicious menu options like their Battered Bacon, which is strips of bacon smothered in a pancake and topped with maple syrup. Also their Bartenders Classic breakfast is definitely an Instagram worthy treat. This feast includes three eggs, bacon, sausage, corned beef, two flap jacks and buttered toast. Add a Caesar on the side and this whole meal is just what the doctor ordered to cure any pain from the night before.

Rock Bottom Bar & Grill

Rock Bottom‘s brunch provides you with everything you could ever want all wrapped up in one. Brunch, sports, beer and those salty peanuts that you can somehow never get enough of. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday. For the ones with a sweet tooth, the banana nut pancakes are to die for and you can even get the whole grain option so to feel like you’re being healthy! For those looking for the whole nine yards, make sure to get the Rock Bottom Big Breakfast, which includes three eggs, your choice of two meats, home-fries and toast. Add a beer and you may need to be rolled out the door.

Louis Restaurant

This diner style restaurant is both a classic and delicious east end hidden gem. Louis Restaurant is always adding new delicious features, so you always have an option of trying something different every time you walk through the door! Their delicious signature pancakes like the cinnamon roll, or the fruit pancakes have people swooning. For those who are gluten intolerant, you don’t have to miss out on the fun because a gluten free pancake option is provided.

Squirrel Cage

Squirrel Cage is another downtown Windsor favorite that’s definitely a brunch must try. They provide both a delicious menu as well as a charming atmosphere all day long. Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday and now that the summer weather is almost here, you can enjoy your brunch patio style. Their Eggs Charlotte, which is an Eggs Benny atop fresh smoked salmon, is to die for and is accompanied by their delicious home-fries and signature greens salad. You can’t say you’ve tried breakfast the right way at Squirrel Cage until you’ve tasted their French Toast pancakes. These little slices of french toast heaven are dipped in pancake batter, grilled to perfection and topped with their homemade Bailey’s whipped cream and blueberry compote.

Maria’s Restaurant

For those of you that are looking for an affordable delicious diner breakfast, than Maria’s Restaurant in Amherstburg is right up your alley. Open bright and early for breakfast at 7am, this adorable diner serves different specials every day.

Walkerville Tavern

Walkerville Tavern is already a hot spot in the area, but their brunch menu just had to make the list! Brunch is served all weekend long and brunch goers have the ability to relax with some bacon and eggs, a pint and a game of pool. What more could you want? If it’s “one of those” Sunday mornings, make sure to get The Big Breakfast, which includes all the delicious basics of brunch: three eggs, sausage, regular bacon and peameal bacon, home-fries and your choice of toast. If you’re feeling like having a brunch fiesta, grab a Corona, a shot of tequila and their Huevos Rancheros which is two eggs, sausage or bacon, home-fries, salsa, sour cream and guacamole on top of crispy corn tortillas and refried beans.
