Once a week in May, you’ll be able to shop at The Cheese Bar in Old Walkerville.

Starting on Sunday, May 15, 2016, The Cheese Bar will occupy Robbie’s Gourmet Sausage Co. and offer a wide selection of  cow, goat, water buffalo and sheep milk products, including yogourt and ice cream!

“I was approached by Robbie (Bornais) about 6 weeks ago with an offer to use his space which had been closed on Sundays,” says Sarah Barrette, owner of The Cheese Bar. “It was an opportunity for me to have a retail outlet in Walkerville once a week and a great way for him to have his products available longer.”

After receiving space to operate Robbie’s Gourmet Sausage Co. rent free by Dressed By An Olive, Robbie wanted to pay it forward.

“Sarah and I spoke earlier in the year about the trials and tribulations of occupying a brick mortar space,” he said. “I thought, here’s a perfect opportunity for her. My shop is closed on Sunday’s and my deli counter empty. So I offered the space to Sarah, rent free, to help her grow some roots in the community.

Robbie thinks one of the toughest hurdles in starting a business as an entrepreneur is taking that next step.

“I couldn’t of done it without the generosity of others,” he said. “I felt a real responsibility in helping someone on their quest to reaching their potential.”

In addition to May 15, The Cheese Bar will also be popping up on May 22 and 29 from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Having a storefront will allow Sarah to offer and showcase her entire product list, from 1.2kg wheels of soft ripened cheese to 2.5kg blocks of cheddar, will be cut to size along with a few others. Fresh cheese curds will also be available.
