It’s mint season and we’ve been hearing from plenty of you that your gardens are so full of the stuff that you don’t know what to do with it. As is usually our response, we say, “make a cocktail!”

We sat down with Mark Dutka, owner of Blind Owl and craft cocktail bartender extraordinaire, as he guided us through two easy to make cocktails that will not only help you go through your supply of mint, but, also keep you refreshed during those dog days of summer.

One of those recipes is a Bourbon Mint Julep and the other is this Authentic Cuban Mojito. Enjoy!

Authentic Cuban Mojito

Ingredients

  • 2 bar spoons of sugar
  • a few mint leaves
  • the juice of half a lime
  • 1.5 oz Cuban rum
  • soda water
  • ice

Directions

  1. Put two bar spoons of sugar in bottom of glass.
  2. Add a few mint leaves and juice from half of a lime and muddle gently being careful not to destroy the mint leaves.
  3. Add rum.
  4. Fill with ice and stir.
  5. Add soda slowly and continue to stir gently
  6. Top with fresh mint sprig and enjoy.
