2014 North American Bicycle Week

Save the date!

Our friends at Detroit Bike City are organizing the first North American Bicycle Week taking place March 27-30, 2014, and we’d thought we’d give them a helping hand.

Businesses and organizations in Windsor and Detroit are collaborating and working together to celebrate cycling.

WindsorEats along with our partners Bike Friendly Windsor Essex, Cycle Culture, and the University of Windsor Cyclists Association will be hosting the Windsor launch to North American Bicycle Week on Thursday, March 27th.

“When we first heard about the NoAm Bicycle Week, we knew we had to get in touch with Detroit Bike City co-founders Mike MacKool and Jason Hall and be a part of a really collaborative effort between the two cities,” Adriano Ciotoli, co-owner WindsorEats. “Each city shares a unique but connected history and we are thrilled be able to work in partnership with Detroit Bike City to highlight the wonderful and amazing things happening on both sides of the river.”

Formed in 2012, Detroit Bike City is an organization dedicated to promoting cycling in the City of Detroit. They gained national attention for their weekly Monday evening bike ride called Slow Roll Mondays that routinely drew crowds of over 1,500 riders; on all types of bikes.

On the Detroit side there are plenty of fantastic events taking place over the week that include the Detroit Bike City Expo on Saturday, March 29 (WindsorEats will have a presence at the show so be sure to stop in and say hello!) and the Slow Roll Season Opener on Sunday March 30.

Here is a breakdown of what we’re planning for the Windsor NoAm Bicycle Week launch on Thursday, March 27th, 2014:

Parade of Bicycles, Old Walkerville Theatre, 1564 Wyandotte Street East
Bust out that beautiful bike of yours and put on your fashionable trends, because we’re having a parade! We’re inviting the public to strut their stuff, walk down our “runway” and show off their bicycle pride. We have registration set up so we can tell everyone about you! Everyone is welcome! We invite everyone from the community to take part and have fun! The parade starts at 5:30 p.m. Don’t have a bike? Don’t worry! You can still come out and cheer on our paraders!

Blessing of the Bikes, Old Walkerville Theatre, 1564 Wyandotte Street East
Come out have good fortune wished upon your bike for the 2014 cycling season. We’ll be wishing riders well and happy travels for the upcoming season. It’s a non denominational event and everyone is welcome.

North American Bicycle Week Windsor Launch, City Cyclery, 553 Lincoln Road
Following the Blessing of the Bikes we’ll have a group ride to the City Cyclery to continue the celebrations and have a jolly good time. This event begins at 7 p.m.

The University of Windsor Cyclists Association is also holding a Spring Bike Week with events of their own.

Visit North American Bicycle Week site for updated information on all the events and keep checking in to WindsorEats on our own wonderful event!
