2012 Lavender Festival

Lavender will be in air this weekend as Essex County will be host to it’s first ever Lavender Festival at Serenity Lavender.

Co-sponsored by Serenity Lavender and WindsorEats, the event will be taking place this Sunday, July 8, 2012, from 10:00am to 5:00pm at Serenity Lavender. Admission is $2.00 for adults and the proceeds are going to the local Community Policing Committee and the funds will be used for teen and children programs.

With lavender festivals growing in popularity the world over, Serenity owner Suzanne Dajczak envisions this as a perfect compliment to our wine industry that could attract significant numbers. One of the most popular lavender festivals is held in Sequim, Washington. The town has a population of only 6,000 yet the festival attracts an attendance of over 100,000 for the weekend.

“We are hoping to make this an annual event and expand the participation of artists and artisans and eventually have it recognized as the largest lavender festival in Canada”, Suzanne explains. “We anticipate up to 1000 people for the first year. People are intrigued by lavender, its scent, colour and its uses so the lavender festival is a way to celebrate its harvest.”

The first lavender festival will consist of music, with vendors will be demonstrating their artistry and there will be a scavenger hunt for the children. Serenity will also be selling lavender lemonade and we’ll be on site too with some lavender treats.  Some of the artists have been inspired and you will be able to find paintings, bath and body products including soaps, lotions, culinary items such as teas, lavender, jelly, herbs de provence, spice blends and of course freshly cut lavender bouquets.
