No sense in locking yourself up in the house, brooding over winter and wishing for warmer weather. It ain’t gonna happen just yet. Instead get out and celebreate the season! This weekend the Lake Erie North Shore Wineries are hosting the annual Festival of Ice. It’s a great way to celebrate winter, visit our wineries and just enjoy our region. Many of the wineries have events, tastings, tours and special tastings taking place
Aleksander Estate Winery:
Celebrate the flavours of the region. County Connect will pair the Aleksander Estate Winery Vidal Icewine with a braised local pork belly and apple, wrapped in puff pastry. Experience a guided tasting with Winemaker Aleksander at 1pm and 3pm. $10 per person. Limited seating, please call to reserve your spot in advance.
Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery
Sprucewood we will be hosting traditional winter skating fun on the pond, with a fire pit nearby to warm your hands. Inside sample wines, with live music care of The Dan Wood Jazz Combo. There will also be hot beverages and snacks to munch on and a soup cook off. As a special treat Sprucewood’s icewine will be available to taste free of charge.
Colio Estate Winery:
The admission to this event is a canned or boxed good for donation to the local food bank. Come see professional ice carvers. See chocolate & wood carving demos. Sip on delicious icewine and sample sweet treats and artisan cheese. Complimentary winery tours and in-store specials. Enter to win grand prize. On Sunday come back to view the finished Ice Sculptures.
Colchester Ridge Estate Winery
Join Colchester Ridge Estate Winery for the Festival of Ice weekend. Warm up with a bag of roasted chestnuts paired with a tasting of their 2008 Gewurztraminer Ice Wine.
Pelee Island Winery
Free tours will be offered as well as offering Cabernet Franc Icewine paired with homemade icewine truffles made with their Cabernet Franc icewine.
Mastronardi Estate Winery:
Tantalize your palate by matching Mastronardi’s Double International Gold Medal Icewine with sumptuous chocolate! Please bring a canned good! Enter to win a Mastronardi Gift Basket and a chance at the Grand prize. Pairings are from 12-5p.m both Saturday Feb 12 & Sunday Feb, 13th, 2011.
